Burning

Playing with grayscale -> color morphed into working with facial expression and also came to involve drawing two figures in relative porportion and close physical contact which turned into...this.

I'm not sure where to start the explanations.

To spare you all the horror of seeing (and, for me, drawing) a freshly-burned face, Kumari's head is turned away from us. There's still blood and bruising and stuff from flying bits of shrapnel, but it's pretty tame overall. I've discovered I have much trouble drawing jawlines and ears at a 3/4 from-the-back angle. It still looks off.

Brendan, meanwhile, is multitasking between crying and pressing oodles of life-force into Kumari from his own reserves. The thing with a Fearan's life-breathing ability is that it's not really flashy. No colored lights, no streams of glowing energy, no ruffles of wind, just the visible wilting of one party and strengthening of another. His hair is already starting to turn white at the tips, if you can see it there. By the time he's saved her and passed out himself, it'll be white to the roots and therefore permanently so.

Meanwhile things are still burning in the background, though Brendan and Kumari are...relatively safe. They'll get dragged out of there; back-up's coming.

I'm kinda proud of how Brendan's face came out overall.

I also kind of feel sorry for what I put the poor things through.
