The evil troll-woman in pink back there is mind-controlling two of the heroes, shown in the front, has teleported one hero beyond the furthest ring (really far away so he can't help) and has captured two others. Basically the good guys are in a really bad situation.
BUT WHAT CAN JOHN DO? THE WINDY THING IS AWESOME, BUT HE WON'T WANT TO HURT THEM!
I half wonder if Dirk doesn't hold the key to freeing them somehow. His domain is the Heart/Soul - it's not quite Mind, but he did show extraordinary resilience to the mind-altering Juju. Maybe that's why HIC had him zapped out beyond the outer ring rather than trying to capture him...
Well, John does have sort of an advantage with the windy thing. We saw in his fight with Jack that he can become the wind. Jade's power is over Space, not Breath, so if he's in that form she won't be able to zap him away like Dirk. Being non-corporeal might give him a resistance to Condie's Scorpius mind control, though that's less likely. Also, it's worth noting that whenever Condie uses her powers, the corresponding zodiac sign shows up on her tiara. Perhaps this means that the tiara is the source of her abilities. Perhaps a hammer to the tiara would do the trick?
That's probably it. Terezi, being the Seer of Mind, might be able to help, too. She has knowledge of mind, maybe that could mean knowledge of how to break them free. Also, concerning Dirk's zapping, I'm kind of torn about something. See, Dirk and Jack have both been zapped to opposite ends of the Medium. Considering narrative coincidence, this probably means that the meteor will cross paths with one of them. It'd be really cool if they ran into Dirk, because that means Strider reunion and avoiding Jack English. On the other hand, if they run into Jack English, that heightens the chance that Dirk's first (well, second now since Jade punched him in the face and zapped him away) impression of the beta kids will be John. And that would just be awesome.
That is true - Jade might have trouble zapping him that way. Still, I don't see him being able to end the fight himself very easily, if only for moral reasons. Grimdark or not, she's his friend and sister, and it'd be hard even to knock her out and drag her away, I think.
I have to wonder how complete Condie's Scorpius powers really are. Evidently they're at least as limited as they were with Vriska - she's never shown signs of taking control of a human the way she probably could with a troll - yet she's also not gone the easy route with certain things and just knocked people out. That could just be a villain-choice, though.
I agree that the tiara seems somewhat suspicious. The trolls always had their signs appear over their foreheads when they used their psychic powers, but it might make sense that Condie has to use an artificial version of them since she wasn't born with the things. That or she got them being, so to speak, a Thief of Life as a grown-up Meenah. Even so, there's a chance that thing boosts them or something similar.
Terezi more sees paths of action and consequence than anything else, though even this could potentially be helpful in working out what's best to do. I'm not sure she's the one to heal the mind. I'm also not entirely sure that's within Dirk's powers, but his are at least more active and possibly can be outwardly driven or directed. Not that we have many details on these things yet.
Unless the rest of the ship comes out of the broken window on Jake's planet. I'm taking that as they got just close enough that Jade could zap herself out as a sort of advance guard (lot of good that did) and John isn't far behind.
I don't think he'd try to attack her. But Condie used Jade to deflect Dirk when he tried to attack her, remember? And John hates the Batterwitch almost as much as Dirk does. It would prevent Condie from using Jade's powers to protect herself.
According to Dirk, it was Lord English who "jacked up her power level", so it's possible that he gave her the tiara. Though where he got it or how it was made, I wouldn't know.
Well, it's not like Dirk is going to sit around twiddling his thumbs in the Furthest Ring until someone comes along, he's probably going to try to get back to his friends. I'm just saying that if the meteor doesn't get to him first, there's a higher chance he'll run into John first when he gets back. I just want some John-Dirk interaction. Is that so much to ask.
Something else occurred to me. If either Dirk or Jack runs into the meteor, that might mean that the other will run into PM and Bec Noir. That'd be interesting.
True. I'm thinking mostly along the lines of "how to remove them from Condie's power right away." HIC isn't going to be easy to reach, and even harder to beat. She's rather overpowered. XD
I was just thinking of that. I'm afraid I haven't any epiphany or even theory to share on that count, though.
Very true. He would start booking it back ASAP, so yeah, if he's just opposite Jake's land, there could be an interesting meeting. I have to admit I've never thought about what it would be like for Dirk and John to meet.
Oh I forgot about those two flying around for some reason! I really shouldn't have. But then, weren't they pretty much directly following the meteor? I don't think they'd end up approaching the session from an opposite direction, unless of course it's some weird trick of paradox space that causes it in the end.
I'm also really surprised that her control of Jade seems to be a combination of Taurus and Scorpio powers. The Taurus I get, but Scorpio only ever caused sleeping. Though... maybe that's it! Maybe the parts of Jade that are purely human Jade are asleep right now, and Grimbark!Jade is basically just Bec. That would explain why the only thing she said was "Bark"... OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. Dirk's the Destroyer of Souls. He's going to destroy Bec's soul, which will him from Jade and free her from the Condesce's control!
That might put Jade in an interesting position concerning the beta session's Jack Noir, since that will literally be all that is left of her dog.
OH MINE GODS! I think you're on to something there! Human Jade is sleeping, because if she was awake she'd probably get in the way of the Taurus control.
I really hope Dirk doesn't have to destroy Bec's soul. It would make me extremely sad; I'm very fond of Jade as a Dog Tier.
As a much lighter side note, I love the "Grimbark" appellation fans have come up with. I've also noticed and been amused by the twin titles of "Big Bad Wolf" and "Little Red Riding Hood" to describe Jane and Jade both in this situation.
Oh gods that is amazing 0__0 Hussie probably was reading through everyone's tumblr posts and seeing that they thought John was going to bust in and take the HIC down, he was like "NOPE I'M GOING TO SURPRISE THEM" and screw things up =_= Amazing art though!!
Personally I kinda thought it would be the asteroid gang busting in - perhaps not taking HIC down right away, but either buying time for a quick Abscond or else beating her off for a while. There went that prediction.
Yeah - this isn't going to be an easy win by any means. HIC probably has LE feeding her timeline information, which is terrible above and beyond her having All the Psychic Powers. Knowledge is the most important thing. I expect that's how she knew exactly when Jade had arrived and zapped Jack English away. If she hadn't known who was there and when, the trap couldn't have happened.
I didn't cry, but I did scream "NO" over and over starting when Jade's mind was caught. I always sort of wondered if Jade might be a little more susceptible to troll mind-control than most humans due to Bec, but I never ever expected her to be THIS susceptible, nor did I ever expect it to actually be explored.
But I don't think she's actually considered to be a player of the game, so god tiering wouldn't (shouldn't) be possible. There is the small possibility the Summoner, Mindfang, and the Helmsman are still alive and are contributing to her power. All in all your guess on the insane alien tech is probably the best reason I've heard.
Well, no, she wouldn't be a god tier by any means, but the Signless certainly showed certain Seer of Blood abilities if you recall, so it's not completely unfeasible that she could have developed her own game-induced powers. She was produced from the game as a grub clone as well, so that could have something to do with it.
I thought it was made pretty clear that the Summoner and Helmsman at the very least were killed, Helmsman being the clearest. That Cthulu lusus, whose name I cannot recall or spell, died and wiped out all troll life in the universe except Condie and those in the game - something of a deal was made of the fact that she was too late to protect/save the Helmsman, forcing her to limp onward in her ship at sub-light speeds.
Lord English was also supposed to have had something to do with pumping her power levels up. Given the fact that he created himself a robotic leg, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if he figured something out there.
I had completely forgotten about that, It's been a while since I read the story on the ancestors... I guess it is a possibility )(IC would have some form of life powers. Your right, Lord English does seem to have a knack for being involved in just about everything. Possibly the crown she wears could have been a ploy set in motion by Doc Scratch since we know from Mindfang's journals that he was present during the time of the ancestors. It seems everything is all up in the air at the moment. btw another update has arived! Intermission 5!
He's probably only capable of this involvement due to Temporal Shenanigans. I expect that's how HIC knew just when to explode Derse and spring the trap - Caliborn saw the arrival of Jade and his future self informed HIC of the trap details and timing.
WHY JADE OF ALL CHARACTERS? SHE'S THE HARDEST TO BEAT!
I feel like Condesce just stole the best weapon the kids had and turned it against them: Bec/Jade's awesome space powers. Not to say the others don't have a fighting chance - for instance, I figure there's a reason why Condesce had Jade zap Dirk out beyond the furthest ring rather than capture him, and that reason is that he's somehow a major threat to her and her plans.
